What I Did At the Quilt Symposium

I caught up with my best friend from high school (I stayed with her as she lives just around the corner from where it was held):

went shopping:

(a small corner of the merchants' mall at eight in the morning before it got crowded)

(my purchases)

made this:

(still needing a couple more borders at this stage)

in a class with this tutor

and this:

(a detail of the stitching)

in a class with this tutor, where we also painted and printed on fabric:

learnt more about my sewing machine in a class with Bernina:

took time to look at the sunset:

went to a number of fascinating lectures:

and saw a lot of quilts (which I can't show you, unfortunately, since I don't have the permission of the owners).

I had a lot of fun and I feel thoroughly injected with the quilting virus again!

You're so talented! I really love the pale piece with the tulip and the moon-it's so desperately beautiful. Are you going to keep it as a picture or use it/make it into something else?

Lydia, I want to frame that piece as a picture. The tutor had framing mats (matts?) in class that we could use to work with. This piece is intended to be about an inch smaller all round, as far as what will show when it is matted and framed goes.
It's not what I intended to make at all, but the fabric told me to :)

Catherine: The photos are superb. I teach in a village hall ( creative writing!) and a quilting class is also held there. They display work regularly and it's gorgeous and tempting but my ex sewing teacher would roar with laughter if she thought I was approaching a patch, let alone a quilt...

It's all beautifu; the quilts and the sunset. Were you inspired by the sunset when you made your quilt? It's got such lovely warm, sunset-colours in it. Well done, you must be feeling vey satisfied with your efforts. What a great start to the year.

That is a gorgeous quilt you made, as well as the other piece! Just beautiful and so inspiring. My late grandmother made quilts - didn't have any fancy materials, just scraps of fabric and feed sacks, but they were gorgeous. The one thing in my life that I've lost that still bothers me is a quilt my grandmother made when my dad was two-and-a-half years old. I went to the Middle East on assignment and left some things with a friend in San Francisco. She disappeared, taking all my things!

Sounds like you had a wonderful time quilting, shopping and visiting with friends!

Catherine, I am so happy that you were able to do this... way to lean into your gifts!

(Three haiku again this past Monday... thought of you.)
