Sunday Photos

Some images from my walk yesterday.

I took a different track from my usual one. It was quite a bit steeper. This is a view from the top, looking over the valley to the next spur where you can see the track I take on most of my walks. As you can see the hillside has got very dry and brown in the last few weeks. Summer is nearly over - in fact, technically it is autumn already, but we are having the warmest weather we have had all summer.

Normally the sheep would get up and wander off when I approach. This one was looking at me as if to say "Nah...it's just too hot to bother".

The magpies really do say quardle oodle ardle wardle doodle

What a beautiful place to go walkabout!
You live in a lovely piece of the world. My mum has bought land near Akaroa and will be moving there this year.

Michele sent me today.

Here via Michele's.

Beautiful photos! Do you know what kind of pods those are?

Deb, they are thistles - there are plenty of them, all over the hillside

Lovely scenery! We get a few magpies around here too, but their setting is somewhat different!

The big thistles look like something we'd have in Scotland!

I know the area where you walk and for me it epitomises Christchurch / Canterbury. Isn't it dry? But after the recent rain maybe a little greener?

Recent rain? I haven't seen any until today, and it's not really enough to make a difference.

Pretty gorgeous pictures, these. Friends are back today from NZ ( Wellington) and I'm looking forward to their pictures which are usually quite special ones too.
RE Bird Sounds: There's been on-going correspondence lately in letters in "The Times" re "what birds are REALLY saying" ....
It turns out it's very much a regional thing..!
