There's a small pile of hair clippings on our floor right now. My sons darkish brown in the middle, with my own....ummm....blonder locks in the middle.
Now that I'm growing grey, I rather like the shade of my hair. My eldest daughter stopped in this morning and we walked to church together. I commented to her that my hair seemed to me to be blonde rather than silvery grey - "or am I just deluding myself?" Children of course are no respecters of their parents' feelings. She was quite happy to assure me that I am deluding myself. Still, it's more of a golden grey than silvery grey, I'm sure. (You can always check my sidebar photo and see what you think).
P - my husband - has always cut our children's hair. I don't think either of my boys have had a paid haircut in their lives, and the girls have not had too many either. He does a pretty good job. But I've never let him loose on mine before. Now that I'm working full time though, it's hard to find time to get to the hairdresser, and besides, our budget is rather tight. It's a quick way of saving quite a lot of money in one go. He offered to use his number 5 comb, or maybe a number 1. I pointed out that the reason was to save money, and it would be rather expensive for me to buy a wig. So he stuck to doing what I asked, which was to trim off about two months worth of growth. It seems a bit less layered than before, but he did a fairly respectable job.

Michele sent me over, Catherine.
This was a post just crying out for photos, Catherine! Crying out, I say! LOL
I get my hair cut every 3 months if it needs it or not! (and it always really, really needs it) I go to one of those cheapie salons where it costs between 7 and 10 dollars for a cut. I've had some pretty bad haircuts that way, and also some really good ones.
As for your hair color, Catherine --I know not to comment on statements like that! My own hair is definitely going gray. At least my hairline isn't changing fast, I'm sure it eventually will though.
I occasionally find a single white hair in my hair now and then, but so far am still my original mousey brown - but there are clues my hair will turn by about 50, much younger than my mum.
I want to find someone who will cut my hair for a reasonable price - but it costs a fortune for women to have their haircut. MB can get his trimmed for about £10.
Everyone at Michele's is asleep, so am roaming links this morning :-)

My goodness you're brave Catherine! On your side picture your hair looks pretty. I have my hair cut really well every 7 weeks or so but if I were really brave I would do something about the colour - that I'm sure would cost a bomb. At least it is healthy and shiny. I'lljust have ot get used to fading into the back ground!
Michele says hi!
I like your sidebar picture, but it's not really close enough to tell the actual color. I know mine has grey (real grey, not blondish grey) coming in.
I'm a fan of the cheapie hair salons too. I keep my hair past my shoulders, so all they really need to do is adjust the length every now and then.
I think your hair looks lovely in your photo. Grey hair can be nice, its just ageist attitudes that say otherwise...
You lok so elegant to me in that photo and grey hair is no big deal.
I wish I was happy with my gray color. My Mom kept her's naural and alwas looked just fine.I can't do it thought and so it's every five weeks tothe hairdresser. Michele sent me.
My wife Kathy has asked me a couple times to trim her hair -- I've always balked... fear!
You are a brave soul to have your husband trim your hair. And your hair looks lovely in the photo. Grey suits some people, including you; I'm not sure it would suit me. When the day comes, I'll probably choose haircolour, as I am very fair-skinned, with freckles and I can't image grey will be flattering.
How lovingly honest our children are with us! Great post.
I'm sure you're hair looks wonderful! :)
I lucked out... my sister went to cosmetology school in high school and has her own salon now. She's cut my hair since I was in sixth grade. I usually like it pretty well. Well, except for the first time in sixth grade when she tried to feather my bangs! Let's just say it was wayyyyyyyy too short in front! Thankfully, she's gotten much better over the years. I'm actually going to see her this week for some highlights to cover up the white hairs around my face!
I wish my husband could cut my hair. I'd love to save the $16 every three months or so that I pay at Super Cuts. Thank God it's short hair and I don't care what it looks like. (No outright offense at Super Cuts intended.)
Nice post. My wife usually cuts my hair. She learnt from her friend who is a professional hairdresser. So she was the first to notice that my hair is slowly thinning out.
I leave my hair to the hairdresser I am ashamed to admit. Part of the reason I have to work is to pay for it. I agree with you - your hair is a blonde type of grey. I am afraid mine (left to its own devices) would fit that awful description - pepper and salt.
