I May Never Need to Read Another Book...

...after spending the evening watching "All the Great Books (Abridged)" performed by the Outwits.

This is part of our city council's Summertimes programme and was therefore free (sort of - the bucket was passed round at the end for donations).

Many people took their picnic hampers, wine, etc and enjoyed the setting in the gardens.

Katherine Mansfield (she was a "short" story writer)

The Trojan horse

Just in case the 76 books covered weren't enough for me, my daughter introduced me to this website:
Book a Minute

(A sample: The Confessions of Augustine: "I was bad. I was very, very bad. Not any more though.")

There's a company in UK called "The Reduced Shakespeare Company". I think they're based at the Criterion Theatre in London but they hit the provinces very regularly.
In one evening, they perform all Shakespeare's plays or the History of America or The Holy Bible. And they often incude the audience in proceedings! As well as informative, it's brilliant entertainment.
I wonder if they visit your part of the world?

Jan, I think this is a version of one of their plays, which our local company purchases rights to perform.

Looks like fun. I wish I lived where it was warm all the time. Or maybe you're in Australia? (Ah, New Zealand.)

I saw the Reduced Shakespears Company do a brief history of the world years ago in Edinburgh Hilarious. I'd be interested in seeing a script for this.

That's too funny, looks like a lot of fun! I'm checking out the book a minute site too. I'd forgotten that it's summer in your part of the world right now, how nice to see all that greenery when it's not even above freezing here today! Here from Micheles today,

How refreshing to see pictures of warm weather!

It looks like the show must have been a real hoot.

Thanks for sharing it with us.

Hi Catherine! Michele sent me. Sounds like a lovely way to spend a day and how I envy the weather. We are a little chilly here in the UK.
Friends of mine - Michael and Jenny Browne spend the summer in NZ and the summer in UK. Lucky so an so's!

That looks like fun and its so cold here now that any sight of summer is very welcome. (Though the sun is reflecting beautifully off the frost here).

You just don't know how we're enjoying your summer vicariously. It is so cold here in Ohio, USA.
